Having said that, there’s no need for a particular software to have broad appeal. Everyone needs to have good antivirus software, but not everyone needs a particular type of text editor. Modern culture has fragmented in many ways, and being able to appeal to a niche can still make a given program very successful. Notepad++ performs its function very well, which should be enough for the people that use it.
